Technology Shaming

shame

Recently, I overheard the following exchange in a public restroom:

Girl 1:  Is that a 4?

Girl 2:  Yes.

Girl 1:  I didn't even know they made those anymore.

Glancing at the cell phone under discussion, my heart went out to Girl 2 for her obvious embarrassment.

I wanted to tell Girl 1 to mind her own technology.  I wanted to tell Girl 2 that defending your financial choices gets easier as you get older.  I wanted to, but I didn't.

I'm not sure that technology shaming gets any easier.

Sweet Husband and I are trying to pay off our mortgage in 2017, so our cars are . . . experienced.  There are days when I drive down the highway and turn green thinking about the new features in all of the cars around me.  When we offer the years of our cars, some friends are shocked.

I chant in my head "We have goals.  We have goals.  We have goals."  I know the sacrifice will be worth it, but it's hard.
